Huge Feeder Capacity, Huge Placement Area

Up to 192 feeders can be mounted on the front and rear of the inline BA 388 while still maintaining a generous 350 mm x 1250 mm (13.8" x 49.2") placement area that can be shared between PCBs and waffle trays. 

Configured as a batch/standalone machine, BA 388 accepts two additional 32-port feeder racks, bringing total feeder capacity to 256. With that many feeder slots, job changeover time is reduced to nearly zero.  Placement area when the machine is fully loaded with feeders is 410 mm x 1100 mm (16" x 43.3").

Set Up to Suit Your Needs

BA 388 comes standard with a fully adjustable, three-stage, single-lane inline conveyor for PCBs to 650 mm. 

Two options exist for handling even longer boards: a single-stage 1.2 meter upgrade that allows the BA 388 to process boards—such as those used for LED tube lighting—up to four feet long in a single pass. A dual-stage conveyor option extends maximum PCB length to 1.5 meters.

The BA 388 is also available in batch/standalone configuration, which allows users to take advantage of the full feeder base capacity, topping out at 256 feeder slots.

Place Just About Any SMD Component—Quickly and Accurately

BA 388 with the standard optics package places parts as small as 0201s. A hybrid optics package adds 01005 capability while still maintaining placement accuracy of 30 µm, 3 Sigma. At the other end of the spectrum, BA 388 can place SMDs as large as 100 x 150 mm, including:

  • BGAs
  • µBGAs
  • CSPs
  • Micro Lead Frames (MLFs)
  • Fine-pitch QFPs down to 0.3 mm/0.012" lead pitch
  • Odd form components
  • And much more

Alignment is accomplished via a dual-vision combination of head-mounted Congex¢ç on-the-fly cameras and stationary bottom cameras. Full vision alignment, which matches component leads, balls or bumps directly with the pads, completely eliminates placement inaccuracies caused by systems that locate and align to only the component body. 

Smart feeders simplify setup, prevent errors

The BA Series feeders have been designed for time savings and reliable performance:

  • Plug-and-play Smart tape and stick feeders link to feeder position, component and indexing data to reduce job setup and changeover times.
  • Ultra-smooth electronic tape feeders index parts to the same place every time—set it up once and never have to do it again.
  • Universal stick feeders adjust to virtually any SMD length, width or tube packaging dimensions.
  • BA 388's placement software analyzes and optimizes feeder locations to minimize head travel and tool changeovers and maximize efficiency and throughput. 
  • Feeders are fully interchangeable between all BA series models.

A bar code scanner and offline feeder programming software are available as time-saving options—scan component data in from the reel label, program feeders for an upcoming job while the machine runs current jobs.

 

Easy to Use, Field-Tested Software

BA 388 uses the same robust, Windows¢ç-based software as all other BA series machines. Customer feedback over the past ten years has created a very easy to use, stable and reliable system. 

  • Program via CAD import and conversion, teaching or direct entry.
  • Component library covers all common component package types and sizes, including resistors, capacitors, diodes, SOTs, PLCCs, QFPs, SOJs, SOPs, etc.
  • Component library data links to Smart Feeder software for easy feeder setup and inventory control.
  • When optional dispensing head is installed, dispensing patterns and parameters can be defined and assigned to specific components in the component library.
  • Virtual PCB Simulator displays a virtual assembly based on programming data.
  • Fiducial mark search routines identify and correct for PCB offset or misalignment.
  • Optimization tools analyze placement data and component mix to provide recommended feeder arrangement that minimizes head travel and tool changes, allowing for fastest production speeds.

Strong and rigid mechanical design
BA388 using welded steel frame and also heavy duty high precision Linear Ball Rail system to provide strong, rigid and long life time mechanism.

Enormous 1100 mm x 410 mm Placement Area with 256 Smart Tape Feeders; 1250 mm x 350 mm Placement Area with 192 Feeders and Conveyor
48-Port Smart Feeder Bases can be mounted on both the front and rear of the BA388 and 32-Port Smart Feeder Bases can be mounted on the left and right sides of the machine for a maximum capacity of 256 feeders. In this stand-alone configuration, a huge 1100 mm x 410 mm can be shared by PCBs and waffle trays. Placement area increases to 1250 mm x 350 mm with feeder bases mounted on only the front and rear of the system and an in-line conveyor installed.

COGNEX¢ç Alignment System "Vision on the Fly"
The BA388 features COGNEX¢ç vision processing and head-mounted for non-contact ¡°Vision on the Fly¡± alignment. The machine BA388 assures high-precision placement of the full range of SMDs, from the smallest 0201 devices through CSPs, µBGAs, flip-chips, ultra-finepitch QFPs (0.3mm fine pitch), even odd-form components.

Bottom Vision Alignment System (Option)
A Bottom Vision Camera is used for large components up to 150 x 100 mm and devices with alignment features on their bottom side.

 

Smart Fiducial System
Besides the standard fiducial mark, either square SMD PCB pad or plate-through hole also can be trained as fiducial mark.

 Dual-conveyor system available as option
Dual conveyor in action will shorten the machine idle time in PCB board loading / unloading. The overall placement speed will hence be increased effectively.

Powerful Windows¢ç-Based Control Software
Intelligent software allows the easy set up for the complex and repeatable LED programming.

 Universal CAD Conversion
Beside the direct input of data by teach-in camera, an optional CAD conversion program for directly transfer of CAD generated pick and place data is available. 

 Auto Tape Feeder (KFTA)
The innovative design of KFTA feeder bases and mounting hardware allows almost limitless flexibility in feeder combinations and arrangement schemes, as almost every feeder can be ordered, loaded, programmed and mounted independently. KFTAs are available from 8 mm up to 72 mm tape width.

 Universal IC Tube Feeder
KFTB universal tube feeder are using vibration driven technique. It is able to handle IC-Sticks with max.50 mm width.

 Cut Strip Tape Holders
Cut Strip Tape Holders is a handy accessory for presenting components that are supplied in short lengths of tape due to their low quantity of usage. It can also prevent the waste of components in sections of tape that are too short to be loaded into tape feeders.

Bulk Pack Component Tray
Designed for bulk pack component, Bulk Pack Component Tray (TSD18) can handle any bulk pack component under the semi-auto production mode. A single tray contains 18 individual slots for maximum 18 types of components.

 IC Tray Holder
The standard TS-1 Tray Holder occupies approximately 330mm X 140mm of work area and is designed to hold a standard 316mm X 136mm JEDEC Matrix Tray. The TS-1 provides adjustability for wide variety of smaller matrix tray and waffle pack combinations and can easily be modified for custom tray configurations.

 Dispenser System
Optional stand alone dispenser head for adhesive & solder paste dispensing. Perfect for quick, small volume production without making stencil.

TEFLON LED Nozzle
TEFLON made LED nozzle in Autotronik BA388 machine, together with the positive air outputting pressure, is specialized design for LED application. The innovative design of Nozzle ensures the effective landing of sticky LED components.

Vision Inspection
With the built-in software, the camera can automatically move and display the image in the computer screen, user can manually check the printing accuracy of solder paste, quality of the soldering, accuracy of component placement, etc.
